Smurfday Party pt. 5: The Snack Buffet AKA Blue Foods Don't Exist in Nature
Aren't all of the party blogs so amazing and beautiful? I mean, who isn't totally inspired by the exquisite Amy Atlas? Who hasn't scoured Hostess with the Mostess for great ideas? Well, this party was NOT like that, but the essence was still there hopefully... So, the snack buffet: Have any of you ever tried to have a blue-fooded theme before? Yea, um, true blue foods don't exactly exist in nature; even blueberries aren't really blue-blue. We improvised. We just made Smurfy labels for all the foods and put them in cute containers and added blue polka dotted ribbon (because polka dots make everything cuter anyway). We had blue punch, blue-dipped smurfberries and blue-dipped pretzel rods. My husband, jokingly, pointed out the blue centered Oreo's at the store- we totally HAD to include those as well. Then, we added a couple jars of blue and white candies (we're still finishing off the York Peppermint Patty Pieces- delish!) For something savory, we had chips and salsa with blue and white tortilla chips... ...you've got to love Grouchy Smurf. A great way to add colour and themed elements to a party is to change already existing labels (what did we do before computers and color printers?). Water bottles are always easy. Here's what you do: Remove the old label and use it as a template. Design your new label, cut, and paste. I like using rubber cement for this project because it just seems like the right thing to use. And you're done! So simple. It really is the little touches that add so much! I think everything just turned out so lovely and my sister was so surprised! And now, my kids are just super-obsessed; even the twins are saying "Smurf" over and over and over and over... again. Oh no, what have I done?
